Article #1, vol. #1
VITAMIN D3 COMBATS CANCER, HEART
FAILURE, AND MORE
The scientific evidence continues
to grow that D3 deficiency is a cause of many kinds of cancer, as
well as osteoporosis, kidney stones, elevated parathyroid hormone
levels, fractures, hypertension and neurological degenerative diseases
like Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, and
many other serious health problems.
Vitamin D3 is a hormone, produced by the skin when exposed to sunlight.
D3 deficiency is a sunlight deficiency disorder. D3 binding sites
are found widely present in most cells in the body, indicating the
need for D3 in most tissues.
There are many people walking around now with high blood pressure,
kidney problems, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease,
and other illnesses, because of not getting enough sunlight. Too
much sunlight is bad. Too little sunlight is deadly.
Recently, a paper was published describing infantile congestive
heart failure, with many deaths of infants. The pediatricians simply
did not know what to do, the babies were dying, and nothing much
seemed to help. Finally, Vitamin D3 deficiency was found to be the
cause. When the babies were given D3, in ade-quate amounts, the
babies got well. These D3 deficiency problems, and others, have
resulted in the American Pediatric Association’s October 2008
recommen-dation to double children’s D3 recommended daily
allowances of vitamin D3.
In my opinion, the new Pediatric Association recommendation will
prove less than many babies require.
Two new, additional, Vitamin D3 studies support the anti-cancer
benefits of D3.
First, in the June 15, 2008 issue of the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF
CANCER, researchers from the University of Rochester Medical Center
suggest that Vitamin D3 works in preventing prostate cancer by linking
with a gene known as G6PD, which releases an antioxidant enzyme
and protects DNA from damage. Their findings conclude that D3 may
not only prevent prostate cancer, but may be useful in treating
it as well.
In my opinion this same mechanism may partially explain the findings
of the next study.
Second, in the journal CANCER EPIDEMIOLOGY,
BIOMARKERS, AND PREVENTION, May 2008, the research suggests that
maintaining high levels of D3 protects against cancer in general.
This study is based on data collected from 3.299 people who participated
in the Ludwigshafen, Germany, Risk and Cardiovascular Health study.
The data showed a 55% reduction in fatal cancers in participants
with higher D3 levels.
The way I interpreted the Ludwigshafen study is that the people
with the “higher” Vitamin D3 levels, who had less cancer
incidence than the rest, had the correct D3 levels. The other participants
with the average, normal, amounts of D3 were in reality suffering
from D3 deficiency.
In a population where most people are deficient, it is “normal”
to be deficient, but it is not good. The body does not grade on
a curve.
What do these studies mean in terms
of your health, and the health of those you love? Most of you readers
are now deficient in the hormone 25 hydroxy D, known as Vitamin
D3, and as Vitamin D by the non cognoscenti. That means that most
of you are in danger of getting the D3 deficiency diseases described
above. Some of you, undoubtedly, already have one or more D3 deficiency
conditions.
Get tested immediately. The correct test is called 25 hydroxy D.
Have it done at a Lab Corp near you. Lab Corp knows how to do it
right.
Lab Corp’s norm starts at 32 ng D3 per ml blood. That is normal,
but not excellent.
Most of the population is actually deficient, norms based on the
average level as being ”normal” are misleading everyone,
including doctor’s inexperienced in this area.
Emerging research indicates that good numbers to attain for D3 are
between 50 to 80 ng/ml. Get to that, and be safer and healthier.
Those of you who are not my patients should work on your Vitamin
D3 level with a doctor who is knowledgeable about nutritional medicine.
If your doctor “poo-poos” this information, fire him/her.
Vitamin D3 deficiency is a deadly disease. But do not dose yourself
with high levels of Vitamin D3 without a knowledgeable doctor’s
supervision.
A good place to read summaries of D3 research papers and to get
the scientific references is from The Vitamin D Council. You may
